Starting at age 0 months to two weeks, a puppy requires more attention from its kennel for they are still vulnerable. For dogs with many children, more human intervention needed to ensure that every child of dog get enough food and attention from their kennel.
When they reach one month of age, the dog began to be gradually weaned and begin eat solid food. The mother may regurgitate some food for its children or maybe let them eat solid food.
When they were about seven weeks of age, puppies are no longer depends on its mother for food. Although they may continue to try to get the attention of its mother, the dog mothers are usually rejected after this age, though sometimes he may let them physical contact with their mother for comfort.
At first, the puppies spend most of their time sleeping and eating. They instinctively glad gathered together, and become distressed if separated from physical contact with their families, even over short distances.
In the first two weeks, a puppy senses function well and thrive with , especially for the sense of smell, but may not be able to open their eyes. During this stage, the nose is the primary organ for use by children dogs to search for their mother's nipple, and to seek their trash-peer, if they become separated by short distances.
Puppies open their eyes about 10 days after birth. At first, puppies have poor eyesight, because they are underdeveloped retinas. Puppies can not be seen as good adult dogs. Puppy's ears usually can not be heard until about age 15 days after birth, after which they gradually more active response to sound.
At the age of two to four weeks, puppies usually start biting, growling, and flick their tails.
During the first three months, Puppies grow very quickly, especially after their eyes and their ears opened and they are no longer totally dependent on their mothers. They are improving coordination and strength, those with their litter, and began to explore the world outside the nest. They play wrestling, chasing, domination, and tug of war games.
It is important that puppies be socialized with humans, especially between the ages eight and twelve weeks, to encourage interaction and develop a healthy puppy social skills around people.
Puppies should ideally be familiar with as many people as possible during this period. Dog who did not receive adequate socialization during this sensitive period can display frightening behavior around humans.
